NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Vatic Investments, a systematic quantitative investment manager, announced today the appointment of Allen Poteshman, Ph.D., as Chief Investment Officer and Head of Statistical Arbitrage, effective April 16th, 2021. Poteshman is based in New York and reports to James Chiu, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Vatic.
In this new role, Poteshman will oversee the firm’s investments across all asset classes including a new statistical arbitrage strategy, and will continue to expand the firm’s reputation within the alternative investment management industry.
“We are elated to add Allen to our management team to ensure that our investment operations are statistically rigorous and our research capabilities are world-class,” Chiu said. “Adding a professional of Allen’s caliber deepens an already extraordinary team and will allow us to combine our existing strengths in trade execution with an enhanced focus on research and financial analysis, creating a single system that embraces both short- to medium-term trading.”
Prior to joining Vatic, Poteshman was a Managing Director in Citadel’s Global Quantitative Securities group and a Senior Vice President in D.E. Shaw’s Equity Stat Arb group, where he spent 11 years. Previously, he spent eight years as a finance Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where his research focused on the equity and options markets.
His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Chicago in addition to a Ph.D. in Philosophy and an M.A. in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh. He also holds a B.A. in Physics and Philosophy from Yale University.
“I am excited to join Vatic’s exceptional team,” Poteshman said. “The firm’s management sets the highest bar for trading and financial talent and intentionally fosters an intensely collaborative environment. These are crucial factors that will drive Vatic’s long-term success.”
Vatic has also recently appointed Scott Grummon, formerly of Point72, as General Counsel and Head of Compliance. These appointments follow a series of key additions, including the recent appointments of Todd Hohman as President and Dave Handley as Chief Technical Officer.
