Blueair’s commitment to innovation in health and wellness inspired cutting-edge testing on live SARS-CoV-2 virus
CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Blueair, a global air purification expert, confirmed today its HealthProtect™ 7400 air purifier removed 99.99%i of live airborne SARS-CoV-2 virus in controlled biosafety level 3 lab testing. The test was conducted by MRIGlobal, an independent non-profit research organization, in a 13ft³ chamber on live aerosolized SARS-CoV-2 virus. With today’s announcement, Blueair’s HealthProtect air purifier has become the first product from a majorii air purifier brand tested to remove the live SARS-CoV-2 virus from the air.
“At Blueair we are proud to be an industry leader in performance testing,” said Jonas Holst, Chief Product Officer. “Blueair has built its position as a leader within the air purification industry by 25 years of independent third-party testing of all innovations. Today there is no surprise that a fear of COVID-19 is driving demand for air purifiers, and as such, our commitment as a brand needs to deliver honest, factual, results on live SARS-CoV-2 virus that consumers can trust.”
In addition to removing the airborne SARS-CoV-2 virus from the air, Blueair’s most advanced air purifier ever, HealthProtect™, is the only air purifier to provide 24/7 protection against viruses and bacteriaiii, allowing you to feel reassured about the air your family breathes each day.
HealthProtect™ state-of-the-art technologies include:
- HEPASilent Ultra™ combines electrostatic and mechanical filtration to remove 99.97% of viruses and bacteriaiv, dust, pollen, dander and moldv, while removing VOCs, and odors. Once caught in the filter, this unique technology then kills 99%vi of germs. HEPASilent Ultra™ delivers 50% more clean air, uses 55% less energy and makes 10% less noise than traditional true HEPA filtration.vii
- GermShield™ proactively monitors your room when your air purifier is on standby and activates to kill germs and prevent growth of bacteria on the filterviii using low air draft and plasma charging. A gentle stream of air then ensures no new growth of bacteria.

iTested in a 13ft³ chamber only on a Blueair HealthProtect 7400. HealthProtect has not been proven to kill SARS-CoV-2 or reduce or prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
ii Based on published testing of top ten air purifier brands on NPD Group Retail Tracking Service Small Appliances POS 2020.
iiiHealthProtect™ is the only air purifier with GermShield technology where 24/7 protection refers to the key function of GermShield technology, activated when the unit is in standby mode to deactivate germs (Staphylococcus albus and MS2 bacteriophage) /prevent growth of bacteria (Ecoli) caught on the filter.
ivBased on third-party testing, using GB/T18801-2015 test standards on airborne viruses and bacteria (H1N1, Staphylococcus aureus, and Esch-erichia coli).
vBased on third-party testing of single pass removal rate of fine particles (0.3-2.5 µm) in 120 minutes according to JEM 1467-2015 standard and pollen particles (7.234µm) in 30 minutes according to AHAM AC-1-2019 standard.
viDeactivation of germs on natural flora (excluding viruses).
viiBased on tests comparing mechanical (Blueair SmartFilter) and electrostatic filtration with only mechanical (H13 filter) filtration, producing higher CADR (GB/T18801-2015), lower noise level (ISO3743), and lower energy consumption (ANSI/AHAM AC-1).
viiiDeactivation of bacteria (Staphylococcus albus) and virus (MS2 bacteriophage) and Ecoli (growth prevention).
